Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Beaten by Iona

Iona scored four unanswered goals to overcome a 1-0 deficit and defeat Canisius, 4-1, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday at Mazzella Field in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Thomas Jamett scored twice, including the game-winning marker, while Mauro Bravo and Killian Colombie also found the back of net for the Gaels (5-3-1, 1-1-0 MAAC).

Sophomore Filippo Tamburini tallied the lone marker for the Golden Griffins (2-5-1, 0-2-0 MAAC).

Following a scoreless first half, Tamburini staked Canisius to a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute when he headed a corner kick from freshman Bilel Bai past Iona keeper Guilano Santucci for his third of the campaign.

Jamett tied the game at 1-1 in the 65th minute, heading home a corner kick from Sebastian Gordillo before striking again at the 77:21 mark when he placed a shot past Canisius keeper Bryce Tramuta from 10 yards out to put the Gaels in front, 2-1.

Iona put the contest out of reach in the final minutes, tallying two goals in a 26-second span to make it a 4-1 contest. Bravo began the sequence with 6:09 remaining, knocking home a rebound from close range after Tramuta stopped an initial attempt from Esad Mackic. Colombie closed out the scoring just moments later, tapping home a backdoor feed from Bravo.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"The effort was there today, but the quality wasn't. I could make a lot of excuses right now but I won't. I'll just say that the bye week has come at a very good time for us. We need to regroup, get healthy and get focused on our next game."
