Softball Shuts Down Manhattan in Sweep

DOUBLEHEADER RECAP
The Canisius softball team earned a pair of wins to sweep over MAAC foe Manhattan Sunday afternoon. The Golden Griffins posted a 1-0 win in game one before coming back to earn the 2-0 victory in game two. With the wins, Canisius is now 9-26 overall and 5-3 in league play, while Manhattan falls to 17-23 overall and 2-10 in conference action.

In the first game, Canisius senior Erika Mackie tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout, fanning six batters.

Canisius took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second as sophomore Brittany Sockwell notched her second home run of the weekend and the only run of the game.

In game two, Mackie returned to the circle, giving up five hits. At the plate, Sockwell tallied her second home run of the day, the third of her career, in the top half of the fifth inning. Sophomore Morgan Altman helped the effort hitting a home run in the top of the seventh inning.

Canisius pounded out four hits in the sweep including a single off the bat of junior Denver Keller in game two.
