Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Roemer’s Late Tally Helps WLAX Defeat Bryant, 7-6

GAME RECAP
Junior Jourdan Roemer scored three second half goals, including the game winner, as the Canisius women's lacrosse program earned its third win of the season, defeating Bryant, 7-6 at the Demske Sports Complex on Thursday. With the win Canisius improved to 3-4 while Bryant dropped to 2-3.

The Bulldogs tallied the equalizer with seven minutes remaining in the game, as Melissa Wamp tallied her second goal of the contest, to make it 6-6, however Roemer answered just 2:13 later, capitalizing on a man advantage to make it 7-6.

The Canisius defense buckled down the rest of the way and didn't allow another Bryant shot, as it outlasted the Bulldogs 7-6.

Jen Reininger did a majority of the scoring in the first half, as she tallied three of the four first half goals. Roemer matched Reininger's three points with a trio for goals herself.

Lauren Smolensky dished out two assists, while freshman Marissa Malvaso tallied her fifth goal of the season. Allie Stewart also got on the scoresheet, tallying her first assist of the season.

The Blue and Gold held down one of division one's best offenses, keeping Bryant to just six goals, with three players tallying two goals apiece. Caitlin Breglia, Caitlin Brown, and Wamp all led the team in scoring.

A huge part of the Canisius defensive effort was that of its backstop, Rebbeca VanLaeken who recorded nine saves on 15 shots on goal, as she improved to 3-4.  Samantha Santeramo dropped to 2-3 on the season as she made 11 saves on 18 shots on goal.

Canisius controlled the draw for most of the game, holding a 10-5 advantage, while Bryant tallied 26 ground balls to Canisius 14.

COACH DALEY POSTGAME COMMENTS
"The most important thing is we found a way to win. I think there were times and moments where we got out of playing Canisius lacrosse and that gave Bryant an opportunity to stay in the game. We knew going into the game that they were one of the hardest working teams we were going to face this season and they were going to compete and battle every moment."

"There were certainly a lot of different elements at play today, especially with the weather. It's Buffalo, and it's what we're used to. The bottom line is I think at the right times we played our style and at the right times our players stepped up to the challenge offensively and defensively."
