Feb. 23 – Canisius vs. Saint Francis – (10 a.m.); Canisius vs. Ball State (12:30 p.m.)
Feb. 24 – Canisius vs. Saint Francis (3 p.m.); Canisius at East Carolina (5:30 p.m.)
Feb. 25 – Canisius vs. Ball State (9 a.m.)

The Canisius softball team returns to action this weekend with five games at the Pirate Invitational, hosted by East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. The Golden Griffins are 1-8 on the year.

PRACTICE SWINGS
• As a team, Canisius is hitting .190 on the year. Sophomore Gianna Degaltini leads the Griffs with her .263 batting average, while freshman Kara Paradowski leads the squad with six hits through her first eight career games.
• Freshman Lindsi Dennis has a team-high two doubles through the team's first two tournament weekends. She is tied for the team lead with sophomore Ashley Barnett, who has two doubles as well.
• Defensively, the Griffs have turned five double-plays this season through eight games. The Blue and Gold turned 12 double-plays for the entire 53-game schedule last year.
• Freshman Emily Nicosia has a record of 1-3 with a 2.75 ERA in five appearances in the circle. Senior Erika Mackie leads the pitching staff with 12 strikeouts in her first six appearances this year.

BACK TO EAST CAROLINA
• This weekend's trip to the Pirate Invitational will mark the sixth time the Griffs have played in East Carolina's tournament. The last time the Blue and Gold took part in this event was 2002.
• The Griffs are 16-9 all-time in the Pirate Invitational. Canisius won the event in 1994 with a perfect 4-0 record. The team also earned four wins in the 1996 and 1997 edition of this non-conference tournament.

ON DECK
• Canisius will have a week off before returning to action March 10 at the Morehead State Classic in Morehead, Ky. The Griffs are scheduled to play four games against the host Eagles and IUPUI.
