Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Michigan Bests Women’s Lacrosse, 14-3

The Canisius women's lacrosse offense had trouble finding answers against a stout Michigan defense, as the team fell to the Wolverines, 14-3 in Ann Arbor, Mich., Sunday afternoon. With the loss Canisius dropped to 0-2 on the year while Michigan improved to 2-2.

Canisius kept things close for much of the first half, as Jen Reininger tallied her first goal of the game to cut the Wolverines' lead to just one, 3-2 with 12:18 left to go in the frame.

However, Michigan answered back with a pair of goals in the final 3:09 of the half, to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.

The Wolverines opened the second half the way they finished the first, recording pair of quick goals back-to-back, in the opening four minutes of play, to distance itself from the Blue and Gold.

Reininger answered with 24:37 remaining, tallying her second of the game, but that's as close the Griffs got as Michigan finished with the 14-3, final score.

Reinger's two points led the team, while Jourdan Roemer posted an assist, and Bryar Cummings tallied her first goal of the season.

Rebecca VanLaeken got the start in net and made 11 saves, and allowed 13 goals as she dropped to 0-2 for the year, while Ellen Newton came on in relief and made one save and allowed one goal in the loss.

Chandler Kirby paced Michigan with four goals on eight shots. Maggie Kane was the other player on UM that tallied a multi-goal game with a pair of markers.

Turnovers proved to be an issue for Canisius as the team gave it away 19 times, while Michigan turned it over 14 times. Draw controls also went to the Wolverines, 12-4 in the contest.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH DALEY
"This wasn't the result we came here for and we are still searching to define who this Canisius team wants to be for this 2018 season," head coach Allison Daley said. "Our coaching staff is going to go back and better our players. We have a resilient group who has faced a lot of adversity. Together we are going to work to improve Golden Griffin lacrosse."
