Softball Drops two to North Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Canisius softball team started out its weekend stay down south with a pair of losses on Friday. The Golden Griffins started the trip with a pair of losses to University of North Florida on the first day of the Jacksonville Spring Tournament.

In the first game, the Ospreys (4-4) took a 4-1 lead after scoring three times in the home half of the third. Gianna Degaltini tallied the only run in the contest in the top half of that inning.

North Florida had a strong showing in the bottom of the fourth adding two more runs to the scoreboard. The home squad took the first game 6-1.

Canisius pounded out eight hits in the loss, Destiny Holani was the only Griff to have a mulit-hit performance.

The squad had six other players record at least one hit. Freshman Emily Nicosia took the loss in the circle after she allowed six runs on six hits in 4 innings of work.

In the second game, University of North Florida scored once in the third and two more times (once in the fifth and once in the sixth), to score a 4-0 win over Canisius. The win improved UNF to 4-4 on the year.

Lauren Castro took the loss for the Blue and Gold after she allowed three earned runs, on seven hits to go with one walk and six strikeouts.

Canisius will return to action tomorrow, February 17, at noon against UT-Arlington.
