ITHACA, N.Y. –Senior Evan Walsh scored on a penalty kick opportunity in the 55th minute to break a 1-1 tie and lift Canisius to a 2-1 victory over Cornell in collegiate men's soccer action Saturday at Berman Field.

Sophomore Troy Brady also scored for the Golden Griffins (5-1-0), who extended their winning streak to five games with the one-goal victory. Tommy Hansan scored the lone goal for the Big Red (1-3-1).

Hansan staked Cornell to a 1-0 lead just 3:49 into the contest, placing a shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

Brady brought Canisius level in the 21st minute, notching his team-leading fifth goal of the campaign on an unassisted effort from the top of the box to knot the game at 1-1.

Walsh put the Griffs in front for good at the 54:24 mark with a successful penalty kick attempt that he placed in the upper right-hand corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

Senior Marco Trivellato got the start in goal for Canisius and made three saves to earn his third victory of the season. Ryan Shellow stopped three shots between the posts for Cornell.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
