Junior Erica Evans has been named the Alpha Lacrosse Player of the Week Inside Lacrosse announced Tuesday afternoon. Evans guided the Canisius women's lacrosse team to their second consecutive MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship this past Sunday, May 7, scoring six goals and adding four assists in a 13-10 win over Fairfield University.

In the MAAC Semifinal game against Niagara on Friday, May 5, Evans had a game-high six points on four goals and two assist, while also leading the Blue and Gold with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.

A Tewaaraton Award semifinalist, Evans leads the NCAA in goals (76), has the second most points (107), ranks third in the country in ground balls (68) and is tied for the ninth most caused turnovers (43) in the Nation.

Named the MAAC Midfielder of the year for a third consecutive season, Evans broke her own school and MAAC single-season record for goals and points this year, while becoming the first player in program and conference history to reach 100 points in a season.

A three-time ALL-MAAC First Team member, Evans also set the Canisius career goals record this season, and became the first player in program history to reach the 200-point career mark as a junior.

With 186 career goals, Evans is now just three tallies away from having the most career goals in MAAC history, held by Jaclyn O' Leary of Iona (188, 2005-08).

The Griffs now set their sights on the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament, where they will face No. 14 Boston College, Friday, at 4 p.m. from the SU Soccer Stadium in Syracuse, N.Y. The winner of the contest will take on host Syracuse University Sunday at 3 p.m.
