Softball Falls to Morgan State, 2-1

Game Recap
Morgan State's Audrianna Alvarez drove in both of her team's runs, including the game-winner in the top of the sixth, as Bears defeated Canisius 2-1 Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Mount St. Mary's Invite in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The win moves Morgan State to 8-10 on the season, while the Golden Griffins fell to 11-16 with their third-straight one-run loss.

Alvarez put Morgan State ahead 1-0 in the fourth with an RBI-ground out to second, and then she drove home the game's eventual game-winning run in the sixth on an RBI-single. Canisius cut Morgan State's lead to 2-1 in the sixth thanks to a leadoff homer by sophomore Lauren Castro, her fifth home run of the season. The Griffs would advance runners to second base later on in the sixth and then again in the seventh, but the Blue and Gold was unable to push the tying run across.

The Griffs had seven hits in the loss, with senior Samantha Sharkey recording a multi-hit day with a pair of singles. Junior pitcher Erika Mackie took the loss in the circle for Canisius after she allowed two runs on five hits while fanning five in seven innings of work.
