Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Heads Past Niagara, 1-0

GAME RECAP
Sophomore Gretta Dry headed home her second goal of the season to help lead the Canisius women's soccer to a 1-0 victory over long-time rival Niagara Wednesday night at Niagara Field in Lewiston, N.Y. The victory moves the Golden Griffins to 7-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the MAAC, while the Purple Eagles fell to 6-4-2 and 2-2-1 in conference play.

Dry tallied the game's only marker in the 18th minute after fellow sophomore Madeline Beaulieu set a cross from inside the box to the far post, knocking off Dry's head and past Niagara freshman goalkeeper Sabrina Locas. Locas finished the evening with three saves in the losing effort.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alana Rossi recorded two saves en route to her second consecutive shutout victory. Rossi, who has seven shutouts to her credit this season, is currently riding a scoreless streak of 194:38, dating back to the Griffs' loss at Siena Sept. 27.

The Purple Eagles held the 10-6 shots advantage for the match, with the Griffs firing four shots on frame. Corner kicks were even 4-4 between the two sides.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Comments
"Rivalry games are always really unique, because you know you are going to get the best effort from both teams. I am really, really proud of the way our kids played tonight. Gretta [Dry] scored picked a great time to score her best goal of the year, and to be able to post a shutout on the road against a quality team like Niagara, I couldn't be more proud of our team effort."
