Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Strauchen, Tamburini Lead Men’s Soccer Past Marist

Senior Eric Strauchen and freshman Filippo Tamburini tallied two goals each to power Canisius to a 4-2 victory over host Marist In Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action Wednesday at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The two-goal triumph stretched the Golden Griffins' (11-3-2, 5-1-2 MAAC) unbeaten streak to four games and clinched Canisius a berth in the 2017 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship.

Tamburini assisted on both of Strauchen's goals to finish the game with six points while Strauchen added an assist on Tamburini's first tally to give him five for the game.

Following a scoreless first half, Canisius exploded for four goals in a 18:44 span midway through the second half to break open the contest.

Strauchen began the sequence in the 61st minute, using a through ball from Tamburini to get behind the Marist defense and bury a shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net to give the Griffs a 1-0 lead.

Strauchen struck again a little more than seven minutes later, teaming up with Tamburini again to create space behind the Marist defense and beat Red Foxes keeper Mark Rajovic with a shot inside the right post to double the Canisius cushion to 2-0.

Tamburini added to the Griffs lead with a pair of tallies just 1:35 apart to make it a 4-0 game, scoring his first at the 77:21 mark on a backdoor feed to the left post from Strauchen before adding his second in the 78th minute on an unassisted effort from 25 yards out.

Marist made an effort to get back in the contest in the final minutes as Ernest Mitchell and Abby Elsayed found the back of the next in the 84th and 86th minute, respectively, to cut the Canisius advantage in half, 4-2. But, that would be as close as the Red Foxes would get as the Griffs kept the Red Foxes off the board the rest of the way.

Senior Marco Trivellato got the start in goal for Canisius and made five saves before being replaced in the 85th minute by senior Bryce Tramuta, who recorded one save. Rajovic turned stopped five shots between the posts for Marist (7-9-0, 3-5-0 MAAC).

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
