Game Recap
Sophomore Emily Czechowski lofted a corner kick on the back post in the 85th minute which was headed and shot twice at the net, all three being saved/blocked. That's the last scoring opportunity the Griffs would get as they fell 2-1 at Marist Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Foxes kicked off the scoring with a goal in the 14th minute on a close range chip shot that just barely cleared the outstretched fingers of freshman goalkeeper Alana Rossi. Marist would lead 1-0 going into the half.
Marist would add another tally shortly into the second period in the 49th minute on a put back shot off a header from a corner kick. Rossi would be pulled after the second goal at the 51:18 minute mark in favor of junior Katie Aldrich who went the rest of the way.
The goalkeeping switch would spark the Griffs offense as Canisius answered right back less than two minutes later in the 51st minute, as freshman Gretta Dry got away from a defender and beat the diving Red Foxes goalkeeper to pull within one. That's where the score would remain as Canisius fell.
Dry lead Canisius with six of the Griffs 18 total shots, three of which reached the goal.
Coach Clark Postgame Comments
“We're at the stage in the season where we're fighting for our playoff lives… if we played with the same intensity that we showed in the last twenty-five minutes, this game would'a gone differently… we're showing inconsistency at times and that's unfortunate… no one ever said the MAAC schedule was going to be easy… effort trumps talent any day and we're a really talented team when we give our best effort… we got to learn our lessons from this game and move onto Iona at home on Saturday.
