Women's Soccer blanks Manhattan, 1-0

Game Recap
Canisius freshman Gretta Dry's penalty kick in the 57th minute was all the Griffs need as they beat visiting Manhattan 1-0 Saturday afternoon. Fellow freshman goalkeeper Alana Rossi saved three shots as she posted her third shutout of her career. The win moves the Golden Griffins to 5-5-0 overall and 3-1-0 in MAAC play.

The Griffs dominated the match statistically firing 16 shots towards the net with seven going on goal. Whereas, the Jaspers shot nine balls towards the goal with only three registering as shots on goal. Also Canisius had six corner kicks to Manhattan's three.

Canisius' shot production came mostly from senior Sabrina Fitzgerald as she aimed seven shots of the Griffs 16 near the net with two going on goal.

Dry continues to lead the Griffs in points (14), goals (5) and assists (4).

Coach Clark Postgame Comments
“The thing I was the most pleased with was the back-to-front energy. It was not necessarily a pretty game… we left a couple of goals, a couple close chances that we didn't finish… but when you win the game in spite of that… for as young as we are… in a weird way, it's even more satisfying.”

Game Notes
• Canisius' defense has recorded a shutout in five of its last seven homes games, dating back to last season.

• Rossi extended her scoreless streak to 295:55 minutes in her last four home games.
• This was the 25th time that Canisius and the Jaspers have faced off with the Griffs holding a 14-9-2 series record.
• It is the first time since 2011 that the Griffs have started 3-1 in their first four MAAC games. This is only the third time in program history that the squad has accomplished this feat.
