Buffalo Tops Women's Soccer

The Canisius College women's soccer team lost to cross-town rival Buffalo on Sunday afternoon by the final score of 2-0. The Golden Griffins are now 0-2 on the season.

Senior Brigid St. Leger made her sixth career start in goal and the goalkeeper put on a strong performance. St. Leger made 14 saves on the afternoon, the most in her collegiate career.

Canisius had 11 total shots in the game with seven of those being on goal. Senior Mallory Illsley led the way again for the Griffs, as the forward took four shots including two on goal. Behind Illsley was sophomore Sabrina Fitzgerald who had two shots on goal of her own.

The Griffs' next match is against Roberts Wesleyan, as the team hosts the Redhawks on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m., this will be the first home game of the 2014 season.

Game Notes: The was the 39th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Buffalo holding a 24-11-4 advantage in the series… Illsley leads the team with 10 shots through the first two games of the season…Over the last five seasons, the Griffs have gone 2-3 in the third game of the year, with the most recent game three victory being against Bucknell in the 2011 campaign.
