The Canisius College swimming and diving team has added Rebecca Anthone to its 2014 recruting class, head coach Scott Vanderzell announced on Monday.

The Clarence native was a four-time All-American for the Red Devils. She helped her team win its second-consecutive New York State Championship this fall as a member of the record-setting 400-yard freestyle team as well as racing to a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.

“Rebecca is a top-notch athlete in the area,” Vanderzell said. “She's going to bring a competitive edge and add depth to our program. She works tremendously hard in the pool, not just when she races but when she practices as well and I think it's going to bring a whole new level to our girls' team.”

Anthone joins a Griffs program that's on the rise, with the women having recorded its highest point total in program history during a fifth place finish at last year's MAAC Championships.
