Arvin Adds ECAC Player of the Week Accolades

After finishing his career with three schools records and MAAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades, senior netminder Ryan Arvin of the Canisius College men's soccer team added ECAC Defensive Player of the Week honors to his resume on Thursday.

Arvin stopped all five shots he faced against Monmouth – the MAAC regular-season champions and top-ranked team in the NSCAA North Atlantic poll. The senior goalie's clean sheet helped lead the Griffs to a 1-0 overtime victory on Saturday, handing the Hawks their first-ever MAAC loss.

A native of Jupiter, Fla, Arvin finished the 2013 season with a 6-5-2 record and .792 save percentage. He also set a school record with a 1.08 goals against average – topping the previous record of 1.10 – while matching the program's single-season mark with four shutouts. In addition, Arvin finished first in the MAAC with 4.62 saves per game during conference matches.

In his career, Arvin posted a 1.18 goals against average, .769 save percentage and five shutouts. His 1.18 goals against average is the best in the program's record book, easily topping the previous standard of 1.43.

Arvin and the Griffs finished the 2013 campaign with a 7-9-2 overall record, placing sixth in the MAAC with 10 points during conference play. Canisius' 15 wins in the last two seasons are tied for the most in any two-year span in the program's history.
