Canisius
College freshman Jen Consaul was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on
Tuesday. This marks the first time the rookie pitcher has received a weekly
honor from the conference office.
Consaul
went 1-0 with a save and a 0.00 ERA last week in her two appearances in the
circle for the Golden Griffins. In the team's 6-2 win over Buffalo April 19,
she earned her third save of the season after she tossed three scoreless
innings and gave up three hits. She came back on April 22 at Siena and tossed a
complete-game shutout and fanned three in the Blue and Gold's 7-0 win over the
Saints in conference play.
Consaul is
currently 5-3 with a 3.50 ERA and a MAAC-best three saves in her freshman
campaign. In her first three career MAAC starts, she boasts a 2-1 record with a
1.59 earned run average.
The
softball team will return to action Wednesday, April 27, when the Griffs play
host to long-time rival Niagara in a MAAC doubleheader at the Demske Sports
Complex. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. On Wednesday, both Canisius and Niagara
will take part in "Beat Cancer With a Bat", a national cancer awareness program
sponsored by National Foundation for Cancer Research. Fans are encouraged to
wear pink, and cash donations will be accepted during both games of the
twinbill. Fans that cannot make Wednesday's doubleheader, but are still interested in donating to this great cause, go do so by clicking here.
