The College Swimming Coaches Association of America
have recognized the Canisius College women's swimming and diving team with
CSCAA Scholar All-American Team honors for the 2009 fall semester, the CSCAA
recently announced.
"This award is a great accomplishment for our
program," said head coach Scott Vanderzell. "It shows that an athlete can be
successful in their sport and in the classroom. Our academics are our future
and I am proud that our student-athletes and our College take academics very
seriously."
The CSCAA selects and honors teams as Scholar
All-American Teams twice a year, once after each semester. To earn these
honors, a team must have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average for the
semester.
The Griffs' 3.26 GPA earned them a spot among 112
Division I schools honored, where they rank 51st on the list of GPAs ranging
from 3.00 to 3.52. "We are an athletic team, but along with that, we set goals
around our academic performance and gauge that as part of our success each
semester," said Vanderzell.
The Golden Griffins wrapped up their season with an
eighth-place finish at the 2010 MAAC Championships after breaking eight records
at the meet.
