Canisius College softball coach Mike Rappl announced today that Sonia Aguilar (Nuevo, Calif.), Michelle DelPrince (Lancaster, N.Y.)
and Robin Kennery (Williamsville, N.Y.) have
signed their National Letter of
Intent and will join the Golden Griffins' roster for the 2012 season.
Aguilar plays both catcher and
third base at Nuview Bridge High School in Nueva, Calif. A two-time team
captain for the Knights, she was named the California Interscholastic
Federation MVP in 2010 after she hit .630 en route to her second-straight team
offensive MVP award. She was also honored for her defensive efforts in 2010, as
she was honored as the Nuview Bridge team Defensive Player of the Year as well.
The daughter of Marco and Rebecca Aguilar, she plans on majoring in criminal
justice at Canisius.
"Sonia is a team leader who plays
the game hard," Rappl said. "She has all the ability to step in and push for
playing time in her freshman year."
DelPrince is a three-year varsity
letterwinner at Lancaster High School, where she's been honored as a two-time
All-ECIC all-star. An outfielder, DelPrince hit .375 with a .545 slugging
percentage and a .429 on-base percentage in 2010. She is a two-sport athlete at
Lancaster, having also earned three varsity letters as a member of the
Redskins' volleyball program. The daughter of Mitch and Sue DelPrince, she
plans on majoring in math education at the College.
"Michelle is a speedy outfielder
that runs the bases very well," Rappl said. "She has speed for the short game
and she also has some pop in her bat. She hit over .400 in the summer and she
can drive the ball for power as well."
Kennery has played on the varsity
softball team at Williamsville North High School since her freshman year, has
won four varsity letters while playing for the Spartans and is a two-time
All-Western New York honoree. For her scholastic career, she's hitting better
than .400 and she has only struck out three times. A member of the school's
girls' soccer team as well, Kennery is the daughter of Rob and Kate Kennery,
and she plans on majoring in psychology at Canisius.
"Robin is a solid infielder who can
also pitch and she has a great eye at the plate, which is evident by the fact
that she has hit better than .400 over the past few seasons," Rappl said.
"She's also served as a two-year captain, which speaks to her leadership
abilities as well."
The Griffs return 14
letterwinners, eight regular starters and two pitchers from last year's club
that went 34-19 overall and 13-3 in MAAC play.
