Abdo, Smith Break Records on Day Three of MAACs

Day Three Results

Senior Kaeli Abdo broke her school record in the 3-meter while sophomore Megan Smith lowered her school record in the 200 butterfly twice as the Griffs continued to post a number of season-best times on the third and final day of the MAAC Championships held at Loyola College Saturday. The Golden Griffin men finish in eighth place with 156 points while the Golden Griffin women finish in eighth place with 143 points.

Abdo totaled 385.85 points in the 3-meter to finish third, breaking her own school record of 331.60 points. After lowering her school record in the 200 butterfly during the preliminaries, Smith lowered it again in the finals with a time of 2:16.12 to finish 11th.

Kevin O'Donnell took 15th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.44 while senior Zack Jenkins had a season-best time of 48.58 to finish 16th. Alex Vitale took 15th in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:34.55 while Adam Salemi took won the "B" final with a time of 2:14.55 to finish ninth overall.

The Griffs missed a school record in the women's 400 freestyle relay by .19 seconds, as the quartet of Jessie Hall, Courtney Marcolini, Vitale and Smith posted a time of 3:49.21 to finish eighth. On the men's side, the relay team of O'Donnell, Sean Carroll, Salemi and Jenkins finished seventh with a time of 3:16.72.

The Griffs had three season-best times in the 200 backstroke ? Elisabeth Burn (2:22.99), Alison Saladin (2:29.32) and Jack Kennon (2:09.95). On top of O'Donnell and Jenkins in the 100 freestyle, the Griffs had five more swimmers with season-best times in the 100 freestyle. On the women's side Laura Quakenbush (1:00.77) and Charlotte Scythes (1:00.85) posted their best times of the year while on the men's side, season-best times came from Carroll (49.96), Dave Jefferys (54.93) and John Morphis (55.33).

Hall had a season-best time in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:37.11 while junior Dan Evans cut more than eight seconds off his previous best time in the 200 butterfly by posting a time of 2:11.31. Senior Brendon Barker recorded a time of 18:29.08 in the 1,650 freestyle, which is more than 1:12 off his previous best time.

Marist won both competitions with the men's team totaling 787.5 points as Rider was in second (772.5) and Loyola took third with 748.5 points. The Red Foxes won the women's competition with 771 points, as Rider was second with 714.5 points and Loyola was third with 710.

The Griffs return to the pool in two weeks at the ECAC Championships held at the University of Pittsburgh.
