Dougherty is in her seventh season at the helm of the Canisius women?s soccer program. A four-year letterwinner with the Tar Heels at North Carolina, the former striker won four NCAA Division I Women?s Soccer National Championships. She graduated in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in communications.
In 2006, the Griffs recorded five shutouts, which are the second-most in program history. During the past two years combined, Canisius has allowed 64 goals, the lowest two-year total in the past 10 years. In 2005, the Golden Griffins won six games, the most for the program since the 1999 season, and advanced to the MAAC quarterfinals for the first time since the 2001 campaign. The team scored the most goals since the 1994 season and allowed the fewest goals since 1996.
On an individual level, the Griffs earned three league honors during the 2006 season and had eight student-athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. In 2005, the Griffs had two student-athletes earn ECAC Weekly honors for the first time in program history.
After graduating from the University of North Carolina in 1994, Dougherty served as an assistant coach at the University at Buffalo until 2000 and received her master's degree in education from UB in 2000.
While at the University at Buffalo, Dougherty assisted the women?s soccer team to a 1999 Mid-American Conference quarterfinal appearance and a 2000 regular-season championship as well as a Mid-American Conference semifinal appearance.
The Burlington, Ontario native also served as head coach of the Team Germania Soccer Club in Buffalo from 1996-2000, where she led her team to a New York State West Championship in 1999. In 1997, Dougherty was a member of the Buffalo Ffillies Professional Women?s Soccer Club. She has served as the head coach of the Buffalo Premier Futbol Club Under-15 Girls squad since 2001. She has also received her USSF Coaching License.
