The
Canisius College women's basketball team has announced its annual postseason
award winners for the 2011-12 season. Four of the five awards awarded at the
banquet were voted on by the team's student-athletes.
Junior
Allison Braun was named the team's
Most Valuable Player and also earned the Coaches' Award. Braun, the team's
captain, appeared in 18 games this season, making 15 starts. Braun averaged 4.6
points and 3.6 rebounds to go along with 25 steals and a 46.8 field goal
percentage. Braun, who missed the final 12 games of the regular season due to a
lower-leg injury, posted the best assist-turnover ratio on the team, including
a 1.53 ratio in her final 10 appearances.
Freshman

Player award. Angelos averaged 23.6 minutes in the final five games of the
season and started the last three games. The 5-foot-6 point guard had 21
assists in the last four games of her freshman campaign and her seven assists
against Siena on Feb. 26, were the most by a Canisius freshman since Micayla
Drysdale on Nov. 12, 2007.
Junior
Ashley Durham received the Best
Defensive Player award. Durham appeared in all 30 games and made 18 starts. The
5-foot-5 guard had 34 steals on the season. Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp received the Unsung Hero Award, which goes
to the student-athlete who doesn't receive public recognition for her role and
sacrifice to the program. VandeBovenkamp battled an ankle injury during preseason camp and throughout parts of the season. The 6-foot-1 forward appeared
in 25 games, averaging 4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per game.
