Canisius College senior outfielder Lauren Falzone and sophomore first baseman Valorie
Nappo were named 2012 MAAC Softball Championship
All-Tournament Team, the conference announced today. Both players played in all
three of Canisius' MAAC Tournament games and hit better than .300 on the
weekend as the Griffs saw their season end with a loss to top-seeded Iona in
the elimination round.
Falzone,
who was named All-MAAC First-Team and to the MAAC All-Academic Team on
Thursday, led Canisius by hitting .364 (4-for-11) with a double, a run scored
and a run batted in for the Griffs in three games against Fairfield, Marist and
Iona. Against Marist, she drove in a run in the third as Canisius scored three
times in the frame to defeat the Red Foxes and advance to the elimination round
final. She ended her senior year with a .324 batting average and a team-high 54
hits to go with 38 runs scored, 10 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
Nappo hit
.333 (3-for-9) with a home run, three RBIs, a run scored and a team-best six
total bases in the MAAC Tournament for the Griffs. Defensively, she was
credited with 20 putouts, she collected three defensive assists and was a part
of three double plays on the weekend. She closed out her sophomore campaign by
hitting .240 with two homers, 23 RBIs, four stolen bases and a team-high 375
defensive putouts.
Canisius
ended the year with a 20-30 overall record and an 11-5 mark in MAAC play. The
Griffs were the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Softball Championship, earning a
postseason berth in the league's tournament for the 21st time in the
last 23 seasons.
