Buffalo, N.Y. - During the last weekend of regular season play, the Canisius College women's soccer team hosted a "Pink Game" for breast cancer awareness Oct. 28, when the Golden Griffins faced MAAC opponent Fairfield at the Demske Sports Complex. The night was a success, as the Golden Griffins presented the Roswell Park Cancer Institute with a check for $730.50 on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

"It is our first year doing a breast cancer awareness game. The girls have always have talked about doing it but it is nice to get it going," said women's soccer assistant coach Sarah Galante. "The girls were really into it and we ended up having a nice crowd, raising a good amount of money to give back to Roswell."

In order to raise money, the Golden Griffins auctioned off their gameworn pink jerseys to the highest bidder following the game. In addition, the event featured a raffle, bake sale, and auction of a soccer ball signed by the reigning Women's Professional Soccer champion, the Buffalo Flash.

Members of the Canisius softball, women's lacrosse, and women's swimming and diving teams showed their support for the women's soccer team at the event, assisting where needed.

"It is so wonderful to have community partners in the area to raise money for Roswell Park and assist with research and patient care programs," said special event coordinator Emily Smaldino of the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
