Adam Jones Selected in MLL Draft

Senior midfielder Adam Jones became the first Canisius College men's lacrosse player selected in the Major League Lacrosse Draft, chosen with the 38th-overall pick by the Rochester Rattlers.

The program's first All-American, Jones has accumulated 125 points and 96 goals during the first three seasons of his career. He led all midfielders nationally in goals during his freshman and sophomore campaigns and helped the Griffs to their first MAAC Championship during the 2008 season.

A three-time All-MAAC First Team selection, Jones led the Griffs with 40 points, 25 goals and 15 assists in 2010. He enters his final season at Canisius ranked sixth in school history in career goals and 11th in career points.

Jones has also enjoyed success during his college career away from Canisius. He was selected as the Most Valuable Player and the Top Midfielder at the 2008 U-19 Men's Lacrosse World Championship and twice led his club team, the Orangeville Northmen, to a Minto Cup Championship. He is also listed as the top prospect for the 2011 National Lacrosse League Draft, according to Inside Lacrosse.

The MLL Collegiate Draft, which usually has been held in June, was moved up to January so the drafted players can begin their professional careers immediately following the 2011 college season. The MLL is compromised of six teams and the draft features eight rounds and 48 total picks.

Jones and the Griffs begin the 2011 season on Feb. 19 with a road contest at No. 20 Bucknell.
