The Canisius College men's soccer team lost its second-straight game to open the 2010 campaign, falling to Delaware on Friday afternoon, 3-1.
Sophomore Andrew Incho netted the lone goal of the afternoon for the Griffs, his first collegiate score. Sophomore Kareem Gray recorded six saves in net to anchor the Canisius defense.
The Blue Hens (1-0-0) tallied the only score of the first half when Courtney Hewitt headed in a goal in the game's 25th minute. Chibsah Faisal extended Delaware's lead to two in the 71st minute with a goal of his own.
Incho then brought the Griffs back to within one with his first collegiate score. The sophomore, playing in his second career game, headed in a pass from sophomore Sam Zarka in the 76th minute as Canisius attempted to rally.
Delaware, however, quickly reclaimed its two-goal advantage when Demar Stephenson scored just 1:52 following Incho's tally. Any chance the Griffs had of making the comeback were dashed when Zarka had his shot ring off the post in the 80th minute.
The Blue Hens outshot the Griffs, 19-8, and had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Conrad Rusnak stopped one shot to earn the victory.
Canisius returns home to face Buffalo on Friday. The Griffs' home opener is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.
