Chris Foreman warms up before a game

Ice Hockey Canisius College Athletics

Campus Chronicles with Chris Forsman

The Griffs are coming off a pretty busy weekend of games and events and not much has changed in the Atlantic Hockey standings. Home-ice advantage is still up in the air and it all comes down to the last weekend of regular season play.

In fitting fashion, we travel down the highway to Rochester for a pair of games against the top team in the league - the RIT Tigers. It should be a great matchup this weekend since home ice is on line for us and a top-four finish in league play. It is always fun going into RIT and it has been awhile since the Griffs last played in Rochester. So the boys can't wait for this weekend.

This past weekend we had a stiff test from the AIC Yellow Jackets. We took 3-of-4 points in two close games. We did just enough to keep pace in the standings and we are in position for home ice in the playoffs thanks to some timely goaltending.

This weekend was senior weekend for the Ice Griffs and there were plenty of friends, family, and alumni on hand to thank this year's senior class for all of their blood, sweat, and tears over the last four years. I came in with this special group of guys. We all arrived back in 2006 and surprisingly, we all made it. It was an emotional night and we were able to get a win in the final regular-season home game for this senior class.

Having said that, there are still several more games to be played for this group, which includes Dave Cianfrini, Josh Heidinger, Carl Hudson, Andrew Loewen, Vincent Amigone, Ryan Klusendorf, Peter MacDougall and Jason Weeks. I can speak for a lot of people around campus when I say we will miss this group next year both on and off the ice. They have helped the program tremendously.

Well that's enough talk about this year's senior class. They were well on there way out anyway because I'm pretty sure they are the country's oldest class in hockey. As for this week, it is a short week with the Sunday game and Monday off. So we only practice three days this week as we prepare for the biggest weekend of the year. On behalf of the boys, I would like to thank all of the fans, friends and family for coming out and supporting us this weekend. In the next edition of the chronicle there will be some Atlantic Hockey playoff news, but until then, keep your stick on the ice.
